With a handful of legends making their returns to WWE Raw, there’s no surprise that shenanigans ensued around the 24-7 Championship. R-Truth entered with the hottest championship in all of professional wrestling, but the road wasn’t going to be easy for the 10x champ to travel. Over the course of the three hour episode, which felt more like a Christmas special than it did a standard outing of Raw, the 24-7 title changed hands ten times, which is a new record for the infant title.
The night began with R-Truth being rolled-up by former champion, Drake Maverick, who has been on a warpath in his attempts to reclaim the championship. During his celebrations, the GM of 205 Live was shocked by a creeping Boogeyman, who sent him running into his luggage. This left Maverick open to being pinned by the first ever Intercontinental Champion, Pat Patterson, becoming the first ever hall-of-famer to hold the 24-7 Championship. During a commercial break, Patterson was rolled-up by an old ally in Gerald Brisco, luckily not whilst he was asleep this time. Brisco’s reign didn’t last too long, as he was hit in the nether regions by Kelly Kelly, who became the first ever female 24-7 Champion.
The fun didn’t stop there, while Kelly celebrated backstage with her former diva pals, she was rolled up by Candice Michelle and used Melina’s new referee licence to score the win. Alundra Blayze then tapped out Michelle, taking the title to the stage to re-enact one of the most infamous moments from the Monday Night Wars – dropping it in a bin.
Luckily, The Million Dollar Man hit the stage and purchased the championship from Blayze, but before he could exit the arena, he was rolled up by Drake Maverick in his limo. Just as we thought all was returning to normality, Truth stole the championship once again from Drake, which ended the night’s chaos.
So with the lineage now truly outshining every other championship in wrestling today, where else could they go with this? I’m sure we can all agree that the tone has definitely been set for here on out.
