Rarest Pokémon Card Ever Sells for a Fortune

It's very effective!

The world’s rarest Pokémon card has sold for $195,000 at an auction in New York.

The mint-condition “Pikachu Illustrator” hologram card features artwork by Atsuko Nishida and is one of approximately 39 copies given to first and second place winners of a 1998 CoCoro Comic illustration contest. Only 10 of these cards are known to be PSA certified, making it the most elusive Pokémon card of all time for collectors to round up.

“This is the only card in the long-running collectible card game series to say ‘Illustrator’ at the top of a Trainer Card,” the seller specified in his listing, “and the only one to bear the pen symbol in the bottom right corner.”

An eBay auction from 2016 resulted in a seller obtaining $54,970, and with this newest auction netting triple that, it’s safe to say that the card’s value is likely to continue climbing rapidly.
