PSP, PS3 & PS Vita Stores Reportedly Closing Later This Year

Sayonara, Sony systems.

According to a recent report from TheGamer, the digital storefronts for the PSP, the PS3 and the PS Vita will be closed later this year. This news comes from an anonymous source who has been verified by TheGamer, with Sony prepping for the announcement later this month.

The PSP, PS3 & PS Vita Stores Are Going Bye-Bye?

It would seem so, yes, and there are actual dates to go along with this news. According to the report, the PSP and PS3 storefronts will be getting the axe on July 2nd, while the PS Vita store will be removed on August 27th. Naturally, after these dates, you won’t be able to purchase new games or DLC from these stores, which likely cause the physical game market to shoot up in price. If you’ve still got some old PS3, PSP or PS Vita games lying around, you might be looking at a tidy profit by the end of the year.

Promises of extra money aside, this news has naturally led to the conversation of game preservation, as each console, particularly the PS3 and PS Vita, has a plethora of digital exclusive content that’ll be inaccessible in a couple of months. Hopefully, we’ll see those games preserved in some way.
