PS5 Games Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy & Horizon Forbidden West Will Come To PS4

So much for generations, I guess?

In what appears to be a reversal in opinion, Sony quietly revealed that three of their biggest PS5 titles, which are Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Horizon Forbidden West will actually be launching on the PS4 as well. While Spider-Man and Sackboy are still launching in 2020, Horizon is surprising as it’s set for 2021.

The PlayStation Blog that confirmed this news also confirmed that if you own any of these games digitally on PS4, you’ll be able to carry the game over for free on the PS5. If you have the disc version, you can also carry the game over, but only if you have the standard version of the PS5 with a disc drive.

This is a change in Sony’s tune from a few months ago, who were previously stating that they “believed in generations”. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan spoke to GamesIndustry.biz back in May, saying that: “We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include.”

In fairness, the PS5 will include features like the DualSense controller, raytracing, near instantaneous loading and other features that set it apart from the previous generation. These benefits will be included in Spider-Man: Remastered, an update to the first game that’ll include new textures and DualSense support, among other upgrades, and will be offered as part of the Miles Morales: Ultimate Edition bundle.
