There’s not long left to wait now until Insomniac’s Spider-Man finally hits shelves for the PlayStation 4. Releasing on September 7th exclusively for the PS4, Spider-Man looks to put the license back on track after several terrible video game iterations in a row.

Early signs point towards it bucking the trend, though all they really need to do is make the swinging feel as good as it did on PS2. Mary Jane is also a playable character and with a massive open world to explore, it could go down as one of the console’s best games.

We’ll have an early indication of if Spidey can swing back into our hearts when the review embargo lifts a few days before launch, as revealed by Metacritic.

That’s a little short notice, though it’s better than what a lot of publishers demand with their embargoes. We’ve been asked to keep our verdict to ourselves until minutes before a game launches a few times this year, so three days is plenty of time.

Can Spider-Man be more acclaimed than this year’s highest-rated game, (and another PS4 exclusive) God of War? It’s going to be a tough ask, but at the very least it’s probably going to be fun finding out. We’ll be reviewing the game closer to launch, so keep an eye out.
