The New 3DS has recently been discontinued, Nintendo of Europe confirmed to GameSpot earlier today. The handheld console never fully released in North America, so this effectively marks the end of the New 3DS on the retail market once existing units are sold.

However, those looking to pick up a DS can breathe a sigh of relief, as other models such as the XL and 2DS will continue to be on sale.

The phase out may be due to three other versions currently being available. There are currently no signs that point to Nintendo ending support for the popular console that has sold more than 65 million units worldwide.
