With sports suffering a host of cancellations due to the ever-present “situation” which we’re all living in, most have made the decision to move over to video games, as a variety of professional athletes have simulated events in their related video games. The latest to make the transition is tennis, as the Mutua Madrid Open is hosting a Virtual Pro tournament in lieu of a physical event, with professional players competing in their own homes using the video game Tennis World Tour.

The Virtual Pro event will comprise of two special tournaments, with the first tournament including 32 top players such as Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and more competing online over Tennis World Tour, in a faithful recreation of the Manolo Santana Stadium. Meanwhile, the second tournament will see tennis professionals compete with select influencers. There’s a prize pool of €350,000 at stake, with €300,000 going towards tennis players that are suffering from the lack of events at the moment, while the rest will go towards hospitals in the fight against COVID-19.

NACON, the publishers of Tennis World Tour, are celebrating this news by adding three new tennis pros to the game – Denis Shapovalov, Alex De Minaur and Caroline Garcia, which are now available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, and will be coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. Will you be tuning in to the Virtual Pro event? Sound off in the comments.
