Pokémon Go Genesect Event: Price, Start Time & More Details

Remember: stay safe.

Pokémon Go

Niantic has made sure that Pokémon Go is still playable, even with everything that is happening in the outside world at the minute. With longer Incense and Meltan boxes, catches are not a problem, and the changes to the Go Battle League means you can still get rewards and rare Pokémon.

This Saturday was also meant to be a special in-game event, A Drive to Investigate, which was to be a special one day Research. This is still happening, although some elements have changed in order to make it playable, and completable, from your home. Here’s all the details you need to know.

A Drive to Investigate is a paid Special Research event, which means it will cost you in order to participate in it, similar to how the Regigigas event worked in November. This event will cost you $7.99/£7.99, and can be purchased anytime up until the end of the event, which has now been extended until March 26th at 8pm local time. To purchase, go into the in-game shop and you will see a Ticket item. This must be bought with real money and can not be bought with in-game coins.

Originally a one day event, this has now been extended. The starting time is now March 20th at 8am, and will run until March 26th 10pm local time. As long as you open the game during this time, the event will activate. After that, you can take as long as you want to complete it and still get the rewards. Niantic have confirmed that all of the tasks for this Research can be done without leaving your home, so no Gym battling or Pokéstop spinning will be required.

The main reward you will get from this Research is Genesect, a Mythical Bug/Steel Pokémon that hasn’t been released in Pokémon Go before. Genesect has a signature move, Techno Blast, that changes type depending on what Drive it is holding. How this is going to be implemented into the game is yet to be seen, but it will certainly be an interesting Pokémon to have in your arsenal. After April, it is confirmed that Genesect will be available in Ex-Raids, but with these being halted for now, we aren’t sure when this will actually happen.

As well as having the reward of Genesect at the end, this Research offers you a whole bunch of other items as rewards along the way. The confirmed rewards so far are 5 Battle Passes (these can now be used for Raids or Go Battle League), 3 Super Incubators, 3 Charged and Fast TMs, 3 Incense, 3 Star Pieces, 1 Poffin (used to feed your Buddy Pokémon), 15 Rare Candies and 1 Glacial Lure. You are more than getting your money back here in terms of what you spend, as Battle Passes are 100 coins each and Super Incubators are 200.

It’s also been confirmed that there will be exclusive Field Research tasks relating to the event if you are able to get out and spin Pokéstops, and these will include encounters with Pokémon such as Pinsir, Skarmory (both of which can be shiny), Scizor, Karrablast, Shelmet and Durant.

Remember, Pokémon Go is currently playable from the comfort of your own home. Use Incense for extra Pokémon to catch, and the Go Battle League for extra rewards and rare Pokémon encounters. Stay safe out there.
