Sony have today announced that they’re hard at work on the PS5 version of the PSVR headset, which aims to enhance the offerings of the already available headset with improvements in a number of key areas. Unfortunately, you won’t be seeing it in 2021, but at least that gives you time to get a PS5 before those scalpers nab them all.

A New PSVR Headset?

In a blog post on the PlayStation website from Hideaki Nishino, Senior VP of Platform Planning and Management, some key details were revealed about the new headset, like the fact that it won’t launch this year.

The post also reveals some of the features that will be included with the new headset: “We’re taking what we’ve learned since launching PS VR on PS4 to develop a next-gen VR system that enhances everything from resolution and field of view to tracking and input. It will connect to PS5 with a single cord to simplify setup and improve ease-of-use, while enabling a high-fidelity visual experience.”

Nishino adds: “One of the innovations we’re excited about is our new VR controller, which will incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics. That’s just one of the examples of future-proof technology we’re developing to match our vision for a whole new generation of VR games and experiences.”

Developers are already working with this new hardware to create promising VR titles, so the future is looking bright for PSVR users. If you can afford it and have the room, anyway.
