Overwatch’s Symmetra is Getting Two Ultimates to Counteract Her Awfulness

Overwatch Symmetra

In the time since Overwatch was launched to widespread praise, the game’s meta has changed more than E3 Watch Dogs and the finished product. At first, we had people complaining about Bastion being overpowered, Torbjorn being too difficult to counter, and so on.

Months later and with Sombra now finally loose there’s one hero that stands out as being the most worthy of ire. Not because she’s a handful, but because she just isn’t the best choice for the majority of plays. Symmetra has become predictable and underused as time has worn on, leading to plenty of calls for her to buffed in one way or another.

After announcing that they were working on changing her for the better, game director Jeff Kaplan has confirmed that Symmetra might just change Overwatch forever: she will be the first hero to have two Ultimates, which can be picked between depending on what you need.

Along with the teleporter, the bane of many long, grinding matches, Symmetra will soon be able to utilise a shield barrier that will be placed individually on teammates. That could potentially be huge. Meanwhile, her old shield barrier will be rejigged with something called Photon Barrier. Imagine Reinhardt’s shield but if it moved on a set path and not with the player and you have the gist.

The Artist Formerly Known as Symmetra will have her re-debut on the PTR soon before being rolled out in the general build. It’s coming at a very interesting time and could potentially mix up the Overwatch scene for 2017. How many naysayers were wrong about the game’s longevity? It’s been months and months and Blizzard’s baby is still going strong, possibly stronger than ever.

If you aren’t in the know, Overwatch received one of the highest review scores from us ever, took the top spot in the best of mid-2016 list, and has a home on the fifty best games of 2016 countdown.

So yeah, it’s good. Play it.
