I Really Want This Revamped Original Xbox Controller And I Don’t Know Why

On cold days, I can still feel the cramp.

The original Xbox controller was the scourge of many during long Halo sessions, myself included. Proportioned roughly the equivalent of a UFO, it was a girthy, almost obnoxiously large controller that could probably double up as somewhere to store your most treasured possessions.

And it’s back.

Hyperkin are bringing back the “Duke” with an updated vision. Usable with either Xbox One or PC, the replica will have a nine foot detachable cable and an LCD screen where the Xbox logo used to be.

“The nicknamed “Duke” controller for the original Xbox was big, bold and tough. On June 11, Hyperkin, a video game hardware development company from Los Angeles, announced that – in partnership with Xbox – it is bringing back The Duke for the Xbox One family of devices (Xbox One, Xbox One S, and Xbox One X) and Windows 10 PCs. Hyperkin’s Research and Development team sought the assistance and the blessing of Seamus Blackley, who played an integral part in the original Xbox team.”

It’s been produced in partnership with Microsoft, who must have won all the RSI lawsuits that came about when the controller was released back in 2001.

No news on a release date for the return of the destroyer of worlds, but it will be limited edition and coming during the holiday season. If you want to snap one up, you will have to act fast.
