Official Trailer for Frozen 2 Reveals Quest Narrative

Are you ready to let it go?

The official trailer for Frozen 2 is here, and it has everyone pretty excited for the movie’s release. It appears that Elsa and the gang are on a quest to figure out the mystery behind Elsa’s powers. This takes them away from Arendelle as they explore a greater magical world, encountering magical creatures like the Nokk – an icy horse creature.

The first movie was a mega hit, earning 1.3 billion worldwide as well as an Academy Award for Best Animated Film in 2014. Let it Go was everywhere, sang by twirling children at bus stops, a consistent song choice at karaoke. It was played so much on the radio it made a lot of us an inverse Oliver Twist – please sir, no more.

As much as the world loved Frozen, it gained a reputation of being an over-hyped and overrated Disney product, so when a sequel was announced there was much eye-rolling of Disney just cashing in – did the narrative really need a sequel? This is like asking if we need another Toy Story movie. We don’t, but hey, if it’s gonna be there I might as well watch it. It has taken us 6 years to get a sequel, and I can see why. The animation of the sea as Elsa sprints into it is amazing; they really managed to capture the appearance and texture of water.

The original cast of Idina Menzel. Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad will return to voice their respective characters Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf. The villain Hans from the first movie, voiced by Santino Fontana, will also be returning, though it is unclear as to the part he will play in this new narrative. Evan Rachel Wood and Stirling K. Brown have also signed on to the sequel but much like Fontana’s role, we will have to wait till the movie’s release on November 22nd this year to find out more.
