William Regal confirmed via today’s broadcast of WWE’s The Bump that NXT will crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion while current champion Jordan Devlin is unable to travel. ‘The Irish Ace’, like many other international superstars, has been grounded in his home country of Ireland due to the global pandemic restrictions, which means the NXT Cruiserweight Championship has essentially been taken out of action in the process.

Regal announced that a tournament will be held over the next few weeks to determine which Cruiserweight star will take the reins from Devlin for the foreseeable future. We can only assume that when travel limitations are reduced later on in the year that the NXT Cruiserweight title will either be returned to Devlin or he’ll be the first in line to challenge whoever has taken over as the head of the division.

As far as who will be competing in said tournament, NXT will be announcing the line-up over the next few days through social media. We’ll keep on top of the announcements and update you as they are revealed. A smart bet might be on the likes of Cameron Grimes, Travis Banks, Austin Theory and Kushida who have all been making waves in their respective branches of NXT.

Regal also suggested that the future of the NXT Tag Team championships is also being discussed. With ‘The Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne in a similar situation to Jordan Devlin, Matt Riddle has been left without a partner in the States. More news to follow on the GM’s decision.
