NJPW Royal Quest: Three Championship Matches Confirmed

London, prepare yourselves.

New Japan Pro Wrestling brings hard-hitting strong style to the UK later this month and now that the G1 Climax is over for the year, Gedo is putting together one hell of a card for Royal Quest in London. The G1 finals saw quite the handful of drama unfold in the championship pictures, as well as a huge shock heel turn from KENTA. These storylines are now culminating with some massive title matches that have now been confirmed for Royal Quest at the Copper Box.

The main event has been set to be a huge return to a classic feud between IWGP World Champion, Kazuchika Okada and his latest challenger, Minoru Suzuki. Suzuki and Okada have had their fair share of championship bouts in Japan, becoming one of the most iconic feuds of NJPW’s modern era. Suzuki stood tall over Okada at the G1 finals, challenging him to this massive title match. The London die-hards are bound to create a deafening rendition of ‘Kaze Ni Nare’ on August 31st, but do you see Okada retaining?

In other Suzuki-Gun related news, Zack Sabre Jr will be defending his Rev Pro British Heavyweight Championship against legendary performer Hiroshi Tanahashi. Revolution Pro Wrestling will be hosting their own event the night prior to Royal Quest, so I’d expect to see some big pre-show matches to take place involving ZSJ, Suzuki, Tanahashi and Okada.

The newest member of Bullet Club will also be in championship action against G1 standout, Tomohiro Ishii. The Never Openweight Championship will be on the line in a match that is bound to be full of still shots and insane physicality.

Another title match confirmed to take place will be for the IWGP Tag Team titles. G.O.D will be on the card, but have yet to find out who their opponents are going to be. Rev Pro have been hosting their own tag tournament to determine the challengers, after a huge night in Southampton this past weekend, we have learned that it will either be the team of Josh Bodom & Sha Samuels or Aussie Open. We’ll keep on top of this as the month progresses.

Who else do you see added to the card? Will you be attending Royal Quest on August 31st? Let us know in the comments below.
