Take a Trip Down Memory Lane with Nintendo’s History of 2D Metroid

If you haven’t yet picked up a copy of Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS, do yourself a favour and do so immediately, because, like most games in the franchise, it’s brilliant. Buy in on the Nintendo eShop or through Amazon, and remind yourself why you love video games in the first place.

If you also feel like broadening your Metroid-related horizons, you might also be interested in a new video called History of 2D Metroid, which Nintendo shared with their three million subscribers on their official Youtube channel. As its name suggests, the video chronicles the history of the 2D entries in the franchise, from the original game in 1986 all the way to 2004’s Zero Mission. Considering the huge amount of backstory they had to go through, it’s pretty impressive how they got it down to just 13 minutes, but this video is still guaranteed to be a hugely entertaining watch for both longtime Samus fans and newcomers.

And don’t despair if you find yourself reaching the end credits of Samus Returns and are still craving a Metroid fix, because although it’s still a ways off, Nintendo confirmed at this year’s E3 that Metroid Prime 4 is in the works. So rest assured, Samus will definitely return.
