Nicole Kidman’s Gretchen Carlson Drops Bombshell in New Trailer

"Ready for war?"

The new trailer for the movie Bombshell was recently released, and the star-studded cast attached to this definitely makes it a must-see movie this year. The movie is based on the real life events surrounding the Fox News controversy, with Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman) exploring legal action against Fox News founder Roger Ailes (John Lithgow). In the trailer, Gretchen has a whole list of sexist comments that has been conveyed to her on and off the air, and is now looking towards having other women come forward to speak out against this culture of misogyny that pervades the setting.

This storyline will intersect with the one involving Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron) and her public sparring with then presidential candidate Donald Trump, who mentioned on air that “there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever”. Margot Robbie plays Kayla Pospisil, a new producer who just joined the company, who is subsequently told by Lithgow’s character that she could get her chance in front of the camera only if she proved her loyalty. Billie Eilish’s ‘Bad Guy’ isn’t the song I would expect to be the soundscape for the trailer, but I have to say, it absolutely works.

In an interview with extratv, Kidman mentioned that Meryl Streep convinced her to take on the role of Gretchen Carlson, when the two were on the set of Big Little Lies. If Meryl Streep says “you have to do it”, then I can see why Kidman took on the role.

Bombshell will be in cinemas December 2019.
