NICE Con–the annual Northants International Comic Expo–has confirmed its return to the UK comic con scene after a one-year break, and has also announced a weekend date, as well as the first confirmed comic creator guest for the event.

Their first confirmed guest is Donny Cates (Star Trek, Buzzkill, The Ghost Fleet) and the confirmed date for the con is the 1st and 2nd of September 2018. This was announced on their Facebook page with the image you can see above, emphasising that Cates is a “UK comic convention exclusive”. NICE Con has always been an excellent con for attracting guests that don’t usually travel over to the UK for events, and Cates is an excellent start to what I’m sure will be a stellar line-up of guests. Previous guests have included Alan Moore, Steve Dillon, Esad Ribic, Mark Buckingham and many others.

NICE Con took a one-year break and did not hold an event this year. This was due to a few other conventions moving their dates around, and the following was posted on their Facebook page to explain the lack of a 2017 event:

“The show has been cancelled purely because of the date alteration by LSCC to the end of August and another large comic show due to move into the end of September. September is going to be a very busy month for comic fans…today I had a chat with the guys over at LSCC and just as I knew their move is in no way malicious, it’s just business. We’ll be working together next year to ensure that there is space in the calendar for us all to stretch our legs.”

So far, there’s no confirmed location or venue for the 2018 NICE Con, but we can assume pretty safely that it’ll be somewhere in/around Bedford, if previous events are anything to go by.
