After a year of anticipation, the Xbox Series X has launched, and surprise, Microsoft told the Xbox Series X to bring its little brother along. Thankfully, the Series S is a great addition to the Xbox’s console line-up, offering next-gen level performance at a budget price, allowing for various entry points into the world of Xbox.
Of course, the hardware itself is only as good as the games that are playable on them, and while the Xbox Series X | S launch line-up felt a bit uninspired (though Devil May Cry V: Special Edition is always a great shout), the upcoming games for the next 12 months and beyond certainly have reasons to get excited.
With the power of the Xbox Series X | S promising 120 fps support, ray tracing and 4K on the Series X, the upcoming games of 2021 and beyond could be some of the best games on the market. Here’s all the biggest games coming to the Xbox Series X | S in 2021, with handy release dates to boot.

New Xbox Series X | S Games Highlights
Without a doubt, Xbox’s biggest upcoming game is Halo Infinite, which in another world would already be available right now. Granted, it would have launched in a buggy state that would have led to months of memes about Craig the Brute and what-have-you, so hopefully the delay to 2021 will make Halo Infinite a more well-rounded game.
Speaking of Xbox exclusives, Playground Games are currently hard at work on a new Fable game, and while details are pretty scarce regarding what the game will entail, Playground themselves have established themselves as being capable of creating compelling open worlds that beg to be explored. Granted, those worlds involve cars (thanks, Forza Horizon), but there’s some translatable skills there, right?
Horror fans will have plenty to sink their teeth into in 2021 on the Xbox Series X | S, kicking off the year with Bloober Team’s The Medium, which should offer plenty of paranormal spooks. Capcom are also releasing Resident Evil Village (or VIIIage, according to the posters) and Ebb Software will be launching Scorn, which looks great for anyone who likes their sci-fi horror with a side of penis-shaped monsters.
Anyone looking for a decent racing game will be excited for Forza Motorsport, a return of the more simulation-heavy side of the franchise, with hundreds of licensed cars to drive around dozens of licensed tracks. Personally, it’d be great to see Forza Horizon 5 as well, especially considering Playground Games have two dedicated teams, but it’s good to see that the next generation of racing games is in safe hands.
As far as action adventures that are heavy on the narrative go, Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga looks set to follow on from the incredible success of the first game. While narrative and gameplay details are thin on the ground at the time of writing, we should see more and more about the game over the coming year.
Looking into the far-flung future reveals more Xbox exclusives to get excited about, including Obsidian’s fantasy RPG Avowed, Rare’s Everwild, which looks like a charming exploration of nature that’ll fit into some genre eventually (who knows?) and State of Decay 3, with Undead Labs’ open world zombie survival looking more brutal than ever.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda also means that we’ll be seeing more Bethesda games coming to the Xbox Series X | S, including PS5 timed-exclusives Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. On top of that, upcoming games like The Elder Scrolls VI and Starfield will also be making their way to the consoles in the future. Consider them to be part of the “& Beyond” part of this title.
