New Post-Apocalyptic Far Cry Game Announced

More from the new Far Cry game will be revealed at The Game Awards 2018.

Far Cry 6

Well at least this is one thing we can tick off our list of things we didn’t see coming surrounding The Game Awards. Way ahead of the show itself, Ubisoft has decided to share a first glimpse at an as yet new untitled Far Cry game before it gets a proper unveiling

Check out the the post-apocalyptic footage below.

It starts off with some narration before moving on to show what looks like someone crafting an item out of what they find on the ground. Is this suggesting that this new Far Cry will be more of a survival game, or is it just going to be a neat little mechanic?

This looks like it could follow directly from Far Cry 5’s controversial “good” ending, in which Joseph Seed’s prophecy comes true and the apocalypse descends — it’s never specified whether he’s simply somehow seen the future or has unleashed a nuke, but the latter is a more favoured theory. The narrator specifically mentions “hope” when Far Cry 5 was set in the fictional Hope Country — maybe a stretch, but it feels intentional.

It’ll be really interesting to see what comes of this, though I have my reservations. Ubisoft have stated that they are more or less done with single-player games, so could this be something reminiscent to Fallout 76 with online multiplayer? Considering how much Ubi tried to push the Arcade in Far Cry 5, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this become a live service of sorts.

We’ll find out for ourselves when The Game Awards 2018 kicks off on December 6th.
