One day Netflix will reach its logical conclusion, having collected every television programme ever  recorded, and making New On Netflix redundant. Fortunately, we’re still at least six months to a year away from that dystopia.

Anyway, this week Netflix absorbs an interesting buffet of new content, including some exclusive stuff they’ve had made just for their streaming service. Here’s what’s on offer:

Daredevil Season Two (US & UK)

What is it: It’s that Marvel show where the blind guy gallivants around Hell’s Kitchen picking fights with criminal goons. He’s also a lawyer, but it’s mainly the ‘getting beaten up by thugs’ thing that takes up most of his time.

Why should you watch: The first season delivered Marvel’s answer to The Dark Knight, with some truly raw fight scenes, great writing and ace acting. This year we’re getting some memorable new characters, including Daredevil’s old love interest Elektra and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.

When: March 18

Pee Wee’s Big Holiday (US & UK)

What is it: The bizarre antics of Pee Wee Herman in a feature length Netflix movie. As someone who knows nothing about Herman, it all looks a bit peculiar, but there’s nothing wrong with silliness in small doses.

Why you should watch: Look, it all looks a bit too slapstick for me, and Herman has the kind of laugh that could lead wives to kill their husbands. Still, it’s a road movie, which has the potential to be interesting – and means it’s unlikely to stick with one gag long enough for it to get stale.

When: March 18

Hotel Transylvania (UK)

What is it: A hotel for monsters in Transylvania is thrown into crisis when a backpacking American tourist shows up without realising what he’s wandered into.

Why you should watch it: If you have children this animated kids’ film should keep them quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Also, it probably has enough gags to keep you entertained through one sitting, even if Adam Sandler is the lead voice.

When: March 16

My Beautiful Broken Brain (UK & US)

What is it: What happens when you suffer a life changing hemorrhagic stroke? You document your recovery on film, which is exactly what Dutch-French filmmaker Lotje Sodderland did.

Why you should watch it: Having earned the respect of this year’s SXSW Film Festival, this one has critics on its side. One woman’s journey from a horrifying loss to a new discovery looks like a deep exploration of the human brain.

When: March 18

Larry Crowne (US)

What is it: Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in a movie, but not the Aaron Sorkin one. Larry Crowne just got laid off, but this is a feel good movie so he goes back to college and turns it all around.

Why you should watch: Not as good a Hanks-Roberts team up as Charlie Wilson’s War, but it has a good supporting cast and at the very least looks like easy fun. Hanks is good even in his bad movies, and Roberts is better than people give her credit for when she’s trying.
