5 Biggest New Movies of February 2022: It’s the Month of Love

The month where rom-com fans rise from the dead and throw paper mâché hearts.

If January is the graveyard month for movies, then February is the month of beating red hearts and sizzling romance, so that’s precisely what we’re getting with the February 2022 movie slate; don’t despair, there’re also some action movies being released for those who are strongly against romantic movies.

Besides the movies on this list, I wanted to highlight some smaller films that are coming out this month that you could enjoy: Book of Love and I Want You Back. Coincidentally, both films are appearing on Amazon Prime, on February 4th and 11th respectively. If you like your February to just be about romantic films, all month long, then yeah, check those out as well.

And now, here are the biggest new movies of February 2022.

New Movies of February 2022

1. Moonfall | February 4th, 2022

If you were growing up in the 90s like I was, that you would absolutely know Roland Emmerich, director of epic disaster movies like Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012. He assembles an incredible ensemble, puts them in some ‘Earth is about to be wiped out’ disaster, and the result is pure chaos and absolute fun. Some people will die along the way, but the core group is more or less intact for the entire movie, so you can just sit back and watch things escalate.

With superhero movies taking up the bulk of cinema screen these days, I’ve really missed the good old days of the traditional blockbuster, where I would head to the cinema with my family for some escapist fun.

After 3 years, Emmerich is back in the director seat for Moonfall, a movie about a mysterious force that knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on a collision course straight for us. With mere weeks before impact, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all, but only two people believe her – an astronaut from her past Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and a conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley).

2. The Worst Person in the World | February 4th, 2022

A Norwegian somewhat anti rom-com might not be something that would interest a regular moviegoer, and to that I say, broaden your horizons and read some subtitles.

The Worst Person in the World follows Julie (Renate Reinsve) who is restlessly drifting through life, moving from medicine to psychology to photography with a quick change of her mind, breaking many hearts in the process. Then she meets Aksel, and falls in love, but what happens after that? Falling in love is the easy part, while navigating the relationship milestones together is difficult when two people want different things.

The Worst Person in the World has a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 89 reviews, which is no easy feat. Needless to say, many enjoyed it, maybe you will too.

3. Death on the Nile | February 11th, 2022

Death on the Nile might be the most unfortunate film to ever exist: it’s been delayed seven times by Disney, not forgetting the PR nightmare of having Armie Hammer in the leading role. The recent trailers have also been trying to bury the man as much as possible, and it remains to be seen whether his presence will tank it.

Death on the Nile is the second installment in the Hercule Poirot franchise, the follow-up to 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express. While director Kenneth Branagh’s previous effort wasn’t exactly stellar, what it did have going for it was an excellent ensemble cast, with the likes of Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Willem Dafoe on board.

Death on the Nile will most likely be a similar affair, a faithful adaptation with a star-studded cast, such as Gal Gadot, Leticia Wright, Jennifer Saunders and Annette Bening. This time Poirot (Branagh) will be solving the murder of a young heiress aboard a cruise ship on the Nile river.

4. Marry Me | February 11th, 2022

It’s been a while since we’ve had a good old-fashioned rom-com release in theaters. Most present-day rom-coms head straight to streaming, the only exception I can think of in recent years being The Broken Hearts Gallery. So, I’m quite excited for Marry Me, especially since we’re finally getting a J.Lo rom-com after like 4 years.

Pop superstar Kat Valdez (Jennifer Lopez) is about to get married before an audience of her loyal fans and a streaming audience of 20 million people. However, seconds before the ceremony, she learns about her fiancé’s cheating ways and has a meltdown on stage. In a moment of inspired insanity, Kat locks eyes with a total stranger in the crowd and marries him on the spot. That total stranger is Charlie (Owen Wilson), who hasn’t ventured into the dating field since his wife left. Can the two make it work despite their different worlds?

The concept feels very Notting Hill (she’s a star, he’s a regular man), and I love that it’s a romance between an older couple. So, if you miss the fun times of the rom-com, Marry Me’s the movie for you.

5. Uncharted | February 18th, 2022

With the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, 2021 ended strong for Tom Holland. Will 2022 give him a strong beginning with Uncharted? The movie is adapted from the successful video games of the same name, and fans are hoping that things don’t get lost in process.

Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor Sully(Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. Nathan and Sully will need to work together to decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, the problem is, are they able to?

The action in the trailer looks amazing, as do the visuals, so I’m hoping for the best. After the string of bad luck Uncharted had – a revolving door of directors, numerous delays – it deserves a win.
