New Halloween Film Confirms There’s A Halloween Multiverse

In an interview with Stereogum published yesterday, John Carpenter said that the new Halloween movie, written by  David Gordon Green and Danny McBride and to be directed by Green, “picks up after the first one and it pretends that  none of the other [sequels] were made.”

So now we have a Halloween multi-verse in which several timelines exist simultaneously, with various points of divergence. What’s most interesting is that this isn’t even the first time this has happened. The prime Halloween timeline ended with part 6. Halloween H20 and Resurrection constitute a second timeline in which only the original film and its first sequel exist as its precursors. And, really, the only reason we know that Halloween II is part of the H20 mythology is because Jamie Lee Curtis is Michael Myers’ sister, a fact which wasn’t revealed in the first film.

Which means, of course, that in the new film, set to be released in October 2018, Laurie Strode might not even be Myers’ sister. The third timeline even ignores the first sequel, after all.

So many questions here! Like, what caused all these divergent timelines, metaphysically speaking? Did it have something to do with the Druids who were revealed to be behind everything in part 6? I kind of like the idea that these weirdos reset the timeline every now and then when it’s clear that Myers has been defeated. Yeah, I’ll go with that.
