New Captain America: Civil War Trailer Unleashed

Spider-Man Civil War

Marvel has been dropping hints this week the new Captain America 3 trailer would feature a new character introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Imagine my utter excitement. I’ve been a fan of the silver screen cap since Marc Salinger flung the shield. And this new mystery character alluded to could only be… Everett Ross.

Ever since Martin Freeman was cast as Everett Ross (allegedly) I’ve been champing at the ole internet bit to see some clips of him in action. He’s brought class to so many genre films. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Hobbit, World’s End, that I couldn’t wait to see what he could do with such a meaty role as government interrogator supreme, Everett Ross. Imagine my disappointment, after watching the entire trailer only to discover Mr. Freeman entirely absent from the action. Instead us long suffering Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are saddled with a quick snippet of Spider-Man taking Captain America’s shield from him as easily as Donald Trump yanking a red, white and blue pacifier from a baby’s yap.

There’s Black Panther and Winter Soldier going toe to toe. Quick aside: is it me or does Sebastian Stan look utterly weak and foolish in everything he’s ever been in except when he has longish hair and a 5 o’clock shadow? Then all of the sudden he looks like the coolest guy ever? I grow my hair out and leave off the trimmers for a day or two, I look like Willy the Wino drinking a short dog over by the barrel fire.

Black Widow has some jabronies to kick around. War Machine catches an energy beam to the chest. Ant-Man celebrates his movie making a little cheddar by running around trying not to get squished and Hawkeye shoots an arrow from his bow.

The rest of the trailer is chock full of immense action set pieces you’ve come to expect from Marvel. There’s Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man back-handing the taste right out of Captain America’s mouth. There’s Chris Evans’ Captain America delivering an unholy beat down on Iron Man. Instantly, the lesson is learned. Never get your hopes up for a Martin Freeman set piece in a Captain America film and never backhand a super soldier, because as Captain America says, “I can do this (fighting Avengers, I believe) all day.”
