We’ve thankfully reached a period in fighting games where single player modes are back and better than ever, with Street Fighter 6’s World Tour being an incredibly fun RPG mode that’ll keep players entertained for hours. Of course, those who love NetherRealm Studios titles know they’ve always kept the single player gamers happy, and Mortal Kombat 1 is no exception, with the Invasions mode functioning like a virtual tabletop RPG.
Players explore maps based on the New Era world of Mortal Kombat 1, landing on tiles and taking on fights with different modifiers and such. As you make progress, you’ll level up your abilities, and can spend skill points to tailor your chosen kombatant in whichever manner you like. Of course, sometimes you might feel like you’ve made a mistake and would like to change your skills, which is why there’s an ability to respec your skill points. You just have to know where to look.
In order to respec your skill points, you first need to complete the Invasions mode tutorial, which takes place at Cage’s Mansion. After finishing that area, you’ll be whisked away to the Invasions mode proper, which starts at Fengjian Village. We can’t speak for if future seasons will start here or feature new locations, but regardless, after completing a few fights here, head to the Mesa Select option in the pause menu, and two new locations should become available: Gateway Portal and Wu Shi Academy. We’re not sure when, but at some point, they’ll be available.
Gateway Portal serves as the hub for the continually rotating Towers that players might remember from Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11, with all the silly modifiers you’d expect. Instead, head to Wu Shi Academy, and check out the shop. Here, you can purchase a number of useful items, including Invasions Level XP boosts and the White Enenra Core, which instantly refunds all spent skill points. The core costs 300 Krowns, the currency used specifically in shops within the Invasions mode. Use this konsumable, and you’ll be able to spend all your skill points however you wish.
Mortal Kombat 1 is available now if you buy the special edition, otherwise MK1 will launch on September 19th for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X & S and Nintendo Switch.
