Millie Bobby Brown Has A Sleuthing Mind in Netflix’s Enola Holmes

Did you know Enola spelt backwards is alone?

Netflix just released the official trailer for Enola Holmes, starring Millie Bobby Brown as the titular character. This film is based on the Enola Holmes mystery series by Nancy Springer. As much as I love Stranger Things, it’s a nice change to have Brown in a more speaking role. Her character has the same precocious energy as a young Hermione Granger, but in this one, Helena Bonham-Carter plays her mother, not some crazed antagonist figure.

Enola does everything with her mother, who raised her to be an independent young woman with an inquiring mind. However, one day, out of the blue, her mother goes missing, and so Enola calls in her brothers for help. Her brothers, Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes (yes, that Sherlock Holmes), are played by Sam Claflin and Henry Cavill respectively. However, Enola refuses to let them ‘civilise’ her into becoming a proper young woman, and instead sets off on a journey to find her mother. The game is afoot indeed.

It will be interesting to see how Cavill’s Sherlock compares to those before him, but by the looks of things, he won’t be such a big part of the film. This film is truly a calling card for Brown, and should lead to bigger and better things for her.

Enola Holmes will be released on Netflix September 23, 2020.
