Middle-earth: Shadow of War Officially Announced

Sauron War

Yesterday, it was leaked that a follow-up to the excellent open-world game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor would be receiving a sequel in the form of Shadow of War. Little more than a title, artwork and brief synopsis was leaked, but it seemed like a sure bet that we’d be playing the game sooner than many thought.

Well that certainly seems to be the case, because a trailer was just dropped by the official Playstation Facebook page, and it concludes by revealing that the game will drop on August 22nd. Not only this, but a gameplay reveal is imminent; just over a week away on March 8th, in fact.

The trailer itself doesn’t divulge much – if anything – about the gameplay, but instead presents a fully CG scene in which the first game’s protagonist, Talion, struggles with the spirit of the Elf Lord Celebrimbor to forge a ring in order to defeat the infamous Sauron. It’s all very Tolkien, and all very promising.

Not much more is known by this point, even after a trailer, but I’m sure we’ll have much more of a grip on what the game will be like after March 8th’s gameplay reveal. Personally, I’m hoping that the game doesn’t sway too far from the first title, but instead just expands and improves upon what’s already there. Shadow of Mordor was a sleeper hit, which means that its sequel needs to be at least great in order to live up to the hype.
