We’re rapidly approaching E3 2018 and the freight train of announcements that’ll follow. In fact, you could say we’re “on the road to E3”, if you were an annoying wrestling commentator. Anyway, Microsoft and Xbox have announced that they’re planning for a major presence at the event, but they’re doing things a little differently.

Taking a leaf out of EA’s playbook and their EA Play event, Microsoft are moving the majority of their presence to the Microsoft Theater, which isn’t too far away from the LA Convention Center where E3 takes place. They’ll also be using the theater to do their special media briefing, as opposed the usual Galen Center which has been used in the past.

In a post on Xbox Wire, Xbox’s Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Mike Nichols gave some reasons for the shake-up: “Not only does the Microsoft Theater allow us to centralise our Xbox presence at E3, but its size enables us to include even more fans and partners in the Xbox E3 2018 Briefing than ever before.”

Of course, having the biggest media Xbox briefing ever won’t mean anything if they have nothing to show, so it’ll be interesting to see what Xbox has up their sleeve when E3 rolls around. Fingers crossed for a Killer Instinct 2, though the safe bet is on a new Halo/Gears of War. Maybe we’ll even get news on Crackdown 3. That’ll be the fucking day. As for the E3 Show Floor, the space usually reserved for Xbox will be focused on their streaming service Mixer.
