Metacritic Users Review Bomb Star Wars Battlefront 2

Battlefront 2

In a move that should surprise absolutely nobody, Metacritic users have taken to the platform to share their damning verdict on Star Wars Battlefront 2 and the business practices surrounding it. It’s not even properly out yet.

Currently sitting at a terrifically not good 0.9/10 (not a typo) for the PS4 version of the game, users have been dishing out zero scores like EA hand out winding-up orders to its own studios. There are smatterings of 1s and 2s, but the Battlefront 2 user ratings are currently a battlefield for EA and DICE.

Here’s just a small sample of the reviews:

“I think it’s great that EA let me pay $99 for their game and then give me the opportunity to buy all the locked heroes for $100’s more, and this is called gaming.”

$99? Sheesh.

“Take me of(f) this silly ride EA, I don’t want to play with you anymore. Why do you try to turn what could be my next favourite game into FIFA. Please stop and walk away from Star Wars.”

FUT gets a free pass all of the time.

“First pay to win full price title. Would you buy chess if one player has no pawns and instead every major unit a second or even third time in his front row because of Microtransactions? Please don’t support this greed and buy a used copy, if you are interested in the story.”

I don’t know anyone who is buying this full-price anymore.

“This whole mess of a pay-to-win system implemented by EA has officially ruined what could have been a great game. The story is interesting and the gameplay is slick. This system needs to stop. And I hope this game will cause enough of a backlash for EA to take action.”

This is true for a lot of the reviews: the game is good, it’s just a damn shame about the business beneath it.

At the time of writing, Battlefront 2’s critic rating is currently sitting at a far more respectable 75 for the PS4 version of the game. The scores range from a 9 to a 5, but the recurring theme of microtransactions being an issue is present throughout a lot of them.

Meanwhile, the Xbox One version has a metascore of 72 with no user reviews and the PC version has a 79, also with no user reviews.

Just in case you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, Battlefront 2’s progression for system has been questioned for pushing players towards its loot crates. After trying to douse the flames, an EA Community comment on Reddit became the most downvoted in the website’s history and the backlash doesn’t show signs of letting up, even if EA decided to tweak the credits needed to unlock Heroes.

While everyone has issues with Battlefront 2, there’s another EA property that I am more concerned for.
