Matt Riddle Cancels Several Independent Bookings Over SummerSlam Weekend

The wrestling rumour mill has been spinning at full speed again, this time with the white-hot speculation that the “King of Bros” Matt Riddle has been signed by WWE.

Riddle, a former UFC fighter, is one of the most popular free agents working on the independent scene right now. He is considered by many as one of the last huge indie stars to not currently be signed by either WWE, NJPW or Impact.

Adding fuel to the fire of this rumour comes the recent news that Riddle has pulled out of bookings during SummerSlam weekend, along with cancelling his booking at the annual Pro Wrestling Guerrilla three day tournament, Battle of Los Angeles. He has been replaced by former Impact X Division Champion, Trevor Lee.

According to PWInsider, Riddle has been on WWE’s radar for some time, but New Japan are also said to be showing a renewed interest in the “King of Bros” (his previous run with the company never got off the ground due to Japan being aggressively anti-marijuana, a substance Riddle has been well documented to partake in).

Of course, this is nothing more than speculation at the moment, and him being signed would be a huge blow to the independent scene worldwide. Signs do point towards Riddle being in the crowd during the upcoming NXT TakeOver event in Brooklyn however.
