Mass Effect Andromeda Teaser Hints at Game’s Setting

Bioware has sent fans of its Mass Effect franchise into a spin with the release of a new teaser trailer of the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda. With November 7th coming up, known as ‘N7 Day’ to fans, the company is set to finally unveil the game ahead of its March 2017 release date.

The teaser shows the protagonists of the upcoming game, the Ryder siblings, standing on Earth’s moon, looking down at the blue marble, which looks to be in a much better shape than when we last saw it.

The teaser also apparently gives some idea of when the game will be set, mentioning a timeframe of “600 years from where we stand”, possibly meaning 600 years from now (as the trailer does seem to speak directly to viewers) or 600 years from Mass Effect 3, which would place the game somewhere between 2616 to 2786.

With Earth looking as healthy as it did before the ending of Mass Effect 3 – most prominently without the Citadel in view, though the ARK ship we’ve seen before does look quite similar – some fans have taken this to mean that the Ryder siblings will leave the Milky Way before the tragic finale of the Reaper War, allowing Bioware to completely avoid dealing with player choice; Bioware has more than once stated that the game won’t acknowledge your personal Mass Effect 3 ending.

A previous trailer showed female Ryder waking up from cryosleep, which would account for the 600 years mentioned, as the ARK ship would have to rely on FTL technology to make the journey due to the lack of Mass Relays.

Though the teaser could be showing an Earth which has been repaired, this doesn’t seem to match with Bioware’s previous stance.

The teaser was accompanied by a change of the branding on the game’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, matching the ‘Andromeda Initiative’ mentioned in the trailer, which also urges viewers to be a part of it on November 7th.

The trailer seems to provide more questions than answers, though fans are hopeful all will be revealed on November 7th, tiding them over until the game is released in March next year.
