Marvel’s Inhumans Isn’t Getting Very Good Early Reviews

Early reviews for Marvel’s new Inhumans series have just hit the Internet and, unfortunately, they’re as negative as some Marvel fans were worried they might be. The reviews look at “The First Chapter”, essentially the first two episodes of the series (confusingly, Marvel are doing both a theatrical and television release of these episodes, which will differ slightly from one another) and point out flaws in writing, direction and visual effects.

IGN’s Joshua Yehl described the IMAX presentation as “a slog to get through”, and criticised the show for poor direction meaning that Inhumans’ “talented actors” were “buried beneath the show’s glaring flaws”. Overall, Yehl gave the IMAX presentation a 4/10, which IGN deems as “bad”.

Vox’s Todd Van Der Werff also warned against seeing Inhumans in IMAX, stating: “visual effects are one of the last things added to a series — they can’t compensate for bad writing, incompetent direction, or listless performances.”

These early reviews don’t bode well for a series which has already left some fans complaining about VFX seen in trailers and preview footage, but it’s important to note that both of these reviews are looking at early footage which has been labelled as such, and that the show will be tweaked and revised before its final release.

Marvel’s Inhumans is set to premiere on Friday September 29 at 8pm on ABC in the US. The first two episodes are available to view in IMAX from today onwards.
