Marilyn Manson Drops New Single, Album Details

Marilyn Manson

The self-proclaimed Antichrist Superstar has risen once again, debuting the heavy and eerie track We Know Where You Fucking Live.

Manson initially performed the song on the European leg of his Heaven Upside Down Tour, one of three new tracks from the upcoming album Heaven Upside Down. We Know Where You Fucking Live serves to validate Manson’s claims that his new LP is “violent in its nature,” and it lays commentaries on our weakening social landscape – some choice lyrics include, “So what’s a nice place like this / Doing ‘round people like us,” “The world was stripped of its superficial surfaces,” “Time to just kill this crowd, scream as fuckin’ loud,” and, “I love the sound of shells hitting the ground, man / I love the sound of shells hitting the ground.”

So yeah, don’t listen to it with your grandparents.

Given We Know Where You Fucking Live’s lyrical content and the beheading of one U.S. president lookalike in Manson’s SAY10 clip last November, one can’t help but wonder whether this new single references our favourite orange villain – the chorus, “We know where you fucking live / We know where you fucking live / We’ll burn it down, burn it down / They won’t even recognize your corpse,” miiiight be alluding to the White House and Mr. Trump, though Manson himself hasn’t confirmed what the song targets. Perhaps it’s the other way around, telling the story of a government ready to turn on its people. Or an individual. Or anything, really, knowing Marilyn Manson. Let’s just leave it up to ambiguity, eh?

With the arrival of this new song, Heaven Upside Down was announced in full – the record is due on October 6th and is available for pre-order wherever music is available (in a few different bundles, might I add). Film composer Tyler Bates (Guardians of the Galaxy, Watchmen), who collaborated with Manson on 2015’s The Pale Emperor, returns to produce Heaven Upside Down. Despite this, Manson has claimed that the new LP won’t quite resemble his last, telling Rolling Stone: “It’s not very much in any way like The Pale Emperor. The people who have heard the new songs said it reminded them of their favorite parts of Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals – but with a new, different approach. It’s pretty violent in its nature for some reason. It’s not emotional in the same way. It’s got a chip on its shoulder. I can’t wait for people to hear it – I think they’re going to be quite surprised.”

Marilyn Manson will be supporting Heaven Upside Down with the North American leg of the Heaven Upside Down Tour, beginning September 27th in Silver Spring, Maryland. If you’re looking forward to new music, AllMusic states another song from the album – titled KILL4ME – will release September 20th.
