Major League Wrestling Signs National TV Deal

Major League Wrestling (MLW) have a new weekly show as part of a deal with national sports broadcaster beIN Sports.

From April 20th, the revived American promotion will be part of the channel’s brand new Friday Night Fury schedule block, showcasing wrestling and other combat sports.

It’s big news and a big coup for MLW, brought back to life in June 2017 after a 13-year layoff. The promotion was originally established in 2002 and ran shows, including a 34-part weekly TV series called Underground TV, before shutting its doors in February 2004.

MLW founder and CEO Court Bauer was pleased with the deal and bullish as ever about his promotion’s prospects and future.

“We’ve been in talks since the fall, and they were very impressed with our product,” said Bauer. “We offer a different presentation because we identify ourselves as a combat sport, but we have a lot more creative freedom than every other combat sport to give the most high-octane presentation.”

Bauer says his product is a perfect blend of MMA and wrestling and ultimately eclipses the two as a result. MLW certainly has the star power to back up the noise and their growing roster is exciting.

Former WWE stars such as MVP and Simon Gotch line up alongside incredible talent with worldwide experience such as Low Ki, Matt Riddle, Joey Janela and Jimmy Havoc.

Also on the MLW roster is Mike Parrow, who hit the headlines in December 2017 as he went public with his sexuality and poignant life story.

On commentary is the former voice of WCW and Greatest Commentator In The History Of Our Sport Tony Schiavone and Rich Bocchini, who plied his trade for a little while with NXT under the name Rich Brennan. Backstage and in the proverbial production truck, former WWE stalwarts Bruce Pritchard and Nelson Sweglar pull the strings.

With the talent and weekly TV show in place, MLW may well usurp the likes of Impact and ROH in the fight to be American’s second most popular wrestling circus.

With a World Championship tournament climaxing on April 12 with a bout between Matt Riddle and Shane Strickland, their first round of TV should be fast out of the gate.
