During last night’s Opening Night Live presentation for Gamescom 2020, indie studio Proletariat announced that their magic-based free-to-play battle royale, Spellbreak, will be launching on PC via the Epic Game Store, PS4, Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch on September 3rd. Take a look at the trailer below.
Spellbreak sees players utilising magical gauntlets to compete for supremacy in the Hollow Lands. With no guns and just a host of magical abilities, Spellbreak could genuinely offer something different in the crowded battle royale space, especially considering the very recent launch of Hyper Scape and Fall Guys (it’s technically a battle royale, right?).
Fortunately, Spellbreak offers a feature that sets it apart from the rest of the field, for now anyway. At launch, Spellbreak will support full cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. Players simply need to create a Spellbreak account and they’ll be able to take their profile with them on any platform, while also forming cross-platform parties to play with friends. Will you be giving Spellbreak a try when it launches next Thursday, or is this just one battle royale too many? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
