If you loved the old tales from the One Thousand And One Nights, then Magi: The Labyrinth Of Magic is the anime for you. Its characters are loosely based on the ones from the Arabian Nights like Aladdin, Alibaba, and Sinbad. The world they live in, though, is closer to your regular anime fantasy world. A world where Magi, powerful magic users, look for candidates worthy of being king, then guide them on their journey.
It’s been nine years since the end of the second season. It got a spinoff prequel series in the form of Adventure Of Sinbad, which is all well and good, but the fans want more. Is Magi: Season 3 coming anytime soon? The manga still has a lot of unadapted material, so what’s the deal?
When Is Magi: Season 3 Being Released?
Bad news for Magi fans: there are currently no plans to make Magi: Season 3. The biggest speculated reason is that the second season’s DVD sales were less than desirable. Only 20 out of 37 manga volumes were animated, so it’s a shame that they haven’t decided to continue it yet.
However, the odds are never zero. Other anime like Shaman King, Bleach, and Dragon Ball got another wind decades after their initial runs, so keep your fingers crossed and your magic lamps at rubbing range.
What Could Magi: Season 3 Be About?
Magi: The Kingdom Of Magic ended at chapter 198 of the manga, making it pretty clear where Magi: Season 3 would start.
Chapter 199 starts off Volume 21 of the manga. This volume will pick up after the war that occurred in Season 2, with Alibaba, Aladdin, and Morgiana returning to the Sindria Kingdom. They are all warmly received and proceed to celebrate.
While partying, a rumor starts spreading about Alibaba being in a relationship with Toto. A rumor he only makes worse.
After the festivities, a new adventure awaits when Alibaba receives an invitation from Balbadd. Along the way, the crew will face pirates and new dungeons for them to conquer.
Which Studio Could Make Magi: Season 3?
Since Magi: Season 3 isn’t confirmed yet, there’s no sure way of knowing which companies would make it. There are two different groups of producers and animation studios. The first created Seasons 1 and 2, while the other made the Adventure Of Sinbad spinoff.
Aniplex, Dentsu, Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, Mainichi Broadcasting System, Movic, and GYAO! co-produced the first two seasons with A-1 Pictures animating them.
The spinoff was co-produced by a smaller team made up of Aniplex, Mainichi Broadcasting System, and Shogakukan. Lay-duce replaced A-1 Pictures as the animation studio in charge.
It’s not an easy guess to make since Adventure Of Sinbad was made more recently, but Magi: Season 3 will be picking up where Season 2 stopped.
Where To Watch Magi
You can stream Magi: The Labyrinth Of Magic (Season 1) on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Netflix, depending on your region. However, Magi: The Kingdom Of Magic (Season 2) is only on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
The spinoff prequel series Magi: Adventure Of Sinbad is tough to find online. It used to be on Netflix but was removed in 2021. It’s still available on Amazon Prime Video in Japan if you use a VPN. You can also purchase it on Blu-ray and DVD from retailers like Amazon. Hopefully, Magi: Season 3 would be more accessible if they decide to make it.
