Yona of the Dawn, also known as Akatsuki no Yona, is a manga adaptation that came out in 2014. Based on the successful manga series by Mizhuo Kusangai, it follows the story of Yona, a princess who is exiled from her kingdom after her crush, Soo-Won, commits a coup d’etat and murders her father. Forced from her home, she and her friend Hak live their life on the run. After hearing the story of the Crimson Dragon King and four Dragon warriors, she looks for these reincarnated warriors to help save her kingdom, meeting new allies and enemies along the way. B
When Season 1 came out, Yona and her entourage had just met Zeno, the last of the Dragon Warriors. After the initial run of the anime’s first season and a couple of OVAs, the story of Season 1 concluded in March 2015. After almost eight years since the last episode, when is Yona of the Dawn: Season 2 going to come out? When are Yona and her posse going to take on Soo-Won? Will we get answers to these questions?
When Is Yona of the Dawn: Season 2 Being Released?
Unfortunately, despite Yona of the Dawn: Season 1 building up a fan base around the story, there is no word on Yona of the Dawn: Season 2’s release date. Neither studio Pierrot, Funimation, nor the manga author, Mizhuo Kusangai, have said anything about whether the anime adaption will be continued or cancelled.
What Is Yona of the Dawn: Season 2 About? (Spoilers)
Season 1 of Yona of the Dawn adapted the first eight volumes of the manga series. So, hypothetically, the story would follow the next eight volumes after that.
Volume 9 of the manga follows the group as they travel to Yun’s home in the land of the Fire Tribe. They find the people there starving and forced into poverty by high taxes, so Yona and her friends step up to protect the town.
The manga series is still ongoing and is currently sitting at 40 volumes, so there is plenty of material to be adapted for any future seasons.
Which Studio Is Making Yona of the Dawn: Season 2?
Studio Pierrot was in charge of adapting Season 1. Unless there are any changes, they will be the most likely candidates to do Season 2. The anime was also licensed by Funimation, and they have mentioned no word about dropping the series.
Where Will Yona of the Dawn: Season 2 Be Aired?
Back in 2014, the best way to judge if an anime was getting a renewal was from Blu-Ray sales. Though that isn’t particularly the case these days, disc sales for Yona of the Dawn weren’t the best that year.
For the time being, if fans want to continue the story of Yona and her friends, they’ll have to start reading the manga. As for Season 1, there are a few choices on where you can watch it. You can stream it on Hulu, Crunchyroll, VRV and Funimation. You can also buy it on Apple TV or purchase the Blu-ray.
