Lost Soul Aside Aiming To Be Released This Year

We might soon be playing the long-awaited RPG.

Although it does not yet have a firm release date, director Yang Bing has confirmed that Lost Soul Aside, which he is developing with Ultizero Games, is aiming to be released on PS4 sometime this year. This news comes from a Chinese interview which was translated by analyst Daniel Ahmad, in which Bing stated that he wants to have the game finished and available to the public before the end of 2020.

We hope Lost Soul Aside does indeed arrive this year, because it looks fantastic. Judging from the AAA-quality visuals, it’s hard to believe that Yang actually started working on this game by himself before Sony took an interest in the project and recruited a team of experienced developers to help him complete it as part of their China Hero Project. Sony must have seen something special in this project, and it’s not difficult to see why.

Regarding gameplay, it seems like Lost Soul Aside will basically be a cross between Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry, with a healthy mix of brutal fast-paced melee combat and RPG elements sprinkled in. The formidable Unreal Engine 4 was clearly put to good use, because from what we’ve seen so far, the spectacular visuals merge perfectly with the fast and fluid combat.

The plot of Lost Soul Aside sounds like typical fantasy RPG weirdness. Set in a retro-futuristic world ravaged by war, the game sees the arrival of monsters threatening the fragile peace between two nations. Playing as a warrior named Kazer, you’ll need to embark on a quest to rid the world of monsters or something to that effect, and you’ll be armed with a living sword made from a crystallised dragon. Yep, this is a fantasy RPG through and through.

Bing is clearly a talented auteur with a unique vision for his game, and we think he has a great career ahead of him after Lost Soul Aside. He may even join the ranks of great game directors like Hideo Kojima (but hopefully he won’t be as big-headed), and we look forward to seeing what he does next.
