Listen To David Hayter Voice Snake In Super Bomberman R Update Trailer

Metal Gear fans were left sorely disappointing by the news that David Hayter, who has long provided the voice of series protagonist Solid Snake (and his “father”, Big Boss), had been dropped in favor of 24 star Kiefer Sutherland for MGS V. And whilst the decision to go with an A-list Hollywood star made sense from a business perspective, fans were still not happy that Hayter, who had been a hugely important part of the franchise for more than two decades, was tossed by the wayside.

The good news is that Hayter will return to voice Snake(s) in a new patch for Super Bomberman R, and if you skip to 0:26 in the trailer below, you can hear his signature gruff tones in action.

Two separate skins are available, one of which depicts Solid Snake in his signature grey combat suit from the first two MGS titles, and the other shows his clone host, Big Boss, wearing jungle camouflage. Hayter, who worked on the scripts for the first two X-Men movies and Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, has also been confirmed to be returning as Snake in this year’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so Metal Gear fans can truly rejoice that his days of voicing the bandana-wearing tough guy are far from over.

As well as the addition of Snake, the patch also adds Raiden, another staple of the Metal Gear franchise, and other Konami heroes including those from Contra and Zone of the Enders, as playable characters (see the full list on Konami’s website). It also features a new checkpoint game mode and a Mother Base inspired map. It’s pretty rare these days that we get to report on some positive Konami-related news, but this patch makes an already decent game even better, so we can do nothing but sing their praises this time.

If you already own Super Bomberman R, the Update 2.1 is available now, and of you don’t already own it, this is a good enough reason as ever to join the party. The game is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
