Listen to Some of Outlast 2’s Soundtrack Right Now

Arguably the second most anticipated horror game of 2017 next to Resident Evil 7, Outlast 2 is on the radar of many gamers who want to take another trip into the twisted minds of Red Barrels.

What made the original Outlast such a success was its music, an endlessly dread-inducing soundscape that made people want to fund special underwear for the sequel. As you would expect, then, the soundtrack for the sequel is shaping up to be just as terrifying.

Samuel Laflamme, who is returning to compose the music for Outlast 2, recently shared a small sample of what we can expect, along with some tracks from the first game. I’m listening to it as I’m typing this and it’s making every word feel like it could be my last. Stellar stuff.

We asked Samuel about what it was like working on the soundtrack for the second game:

“Outlast 2 takes the game’s horror in an intense, psychological direction. I was thrilled by the challenge to compose music to support this goal, and the first step was not redoing the same score as the original one. I had to be as bold and deep, but different and original.”

Samuel is a French-Canadian composer who’s worked on setting the mood for a couple of games in the past as well as the fantasy movie Wait Til Helen Comes and the comedy series Le Chalet. You will be able to hear (and be scared by) his work next when Outlast 2 is released sometime in Q1 2017, which would suggest it’s this month. Judging by how much we enjoyed the demo, we won’t mind waiting a little longer if it gets pushed back again.
