Game developers seem to be all about the smelly side of things when it comes to promoting their titles lately. First we had the Nosulus Rift for South Park: The Fractured but Whole and now we have one better. Red Barrels, the guys behind the upcoming Outlast 2, have Kickstarted underwear to tie-in with the terror.
They have called them ‘Underscares’, which is brilliant:
You shat, we listened. Introducing Underscares, the Outlast 2 companion diaper. Because when you’re scared, #2 can become problem #1.
Just in case you think this is one elaborate joke, Underscares are a genuine product:
“In partnership with local designers, we developed a diaper prototype that combines practicality, comfort and style so gamers can experience abject terror without worrying about dirtying their egos (or their couches). Underscares are wearable, comfortable, high quality and most importantly, washable.”
As this is crowdfunding, you can bet your easily spent dollars that there are several tiers to getting the Underscares you need. You can pick them up for as little as $10 CAD, but you have to make them yourself, or you can pay $6666 (ahaaa) CAD and have all the Underscares you could ever need and wear recreationally.
The project needs $40,000 CAD to be successful and has so far raised $12,614 CAD with 15 days left to go. It’s going to hit its target and you know it. However, Outlast 2 itself hasn’t hit its initial release date – it’s recently been delayed until 2017.
