What We Learned About the MCU at SDCC 2017

Comic Con took place in San Diego last weekend and as expected, Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe featured prominently throughout.

Here’s a rundown of the MCU news to come out of San Diego Comic Con 2017, starting with the TV shows:

The Defenders

The Defenders

Dropping on Netflix August 18th, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will defend New York from Alexandra, played by Sigourney Weaver. The series will include the resurrection of Elektra and sparks between Luke and Jessica.

The Punisher

The Punisher will be the next Marvel Netflix series after The Defenders. We don’t have much information yet, other than it will debut sometime in November.

Luke Cage

Season 2 is currently filming. Not much else to report.

Iron Fist

Misty Knight, last seen in the first season of Luke Cage, will join Iron Fist in season two.

The Inhumans

Though it will debut in IMAX, more Inhumans content will be shown during the ABC premiere on September 29th. It’s also been confirmed that their home planet, Attilan, is on the moon. The series will focus on the rivalry between Black Bolt, leader of the Inhumans, and his brother Maximus.

Onto the films!

Captain Marvel

Marvel’s first female-led film will take place in the 1990s and feature the Skrulls, the shape-shifting alien race, as the primary villains. Samuel L. Jackson was also confirmed to reprise his role as Nick Fury (with both eyes!)

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Michelle Pfeiffer has been cast to play Janet van Dyne in the Ant-Man sequel.

Thor: Ragnarok

The new trailer debuted and this looks like a fun one. We see more of that bro chemistry between Thor and Hulk, Cate Blanchett’s Hela looks treacherous, and Jeff Goldblum is a dead-wringer for the Grandmaster.

Black Panther

Though not yet released to the public, Marvel showed the first footage from Black Panther and had the crowd on its feet. Extremely well shot with a perfect music selection in Kendrick Lamar. Look for the public trailer soon.

Avengers: Infinity War

This is the one we’ve all been waiting for. I don’t want to provide spoilers here (a different article is coming for that), so while I won’t reveal specifics, this movie is set to live up to the hype. The trailer itself was so suspenseful, I get chills thinking about film itself.
