UPDATE: the leaked games have now been confirmed by Sony.

ORIGINAL: The PlayStation Plus Essential games for May 2023 seem to have been leaked, once again, by reputable French leaker billbil-kun over on Dealabs, and it seems like people who enjoy multiplayer gaming and going very fast will be eating very well next month.

Here is every game reportedly coming to PS Plus this May for PS5 and PS4 subscribers:

– Grid Legends (PS4/PS5)
– Chivalry II (PS4/PS5)
– Descenders (PS4/PS5)

No generation is left behind in May, as all three games will be available on both PS4 and PS5. Interestingly (or uninterestingly, depending on how much you care about this stuff), all of these games are also currently available on Game Pass.

The biggest hitter of May’s Plus games is arguably GRID Legends, the most recent entry in the GRID franchise and the first one published by EA. It’s not the most beloved entry in the franchise by a long shot, with fans a little disappointed by its length and poor AI, but if you’re looking for a fun arcade racer to waste some time with this May, you really can’t go wrong. Bit of a shame that it’s going to be coming to EA Play soon too, so people who subscribe to both services might not see the value.

Chivalry II, meanwhile, is a fun, chaotic multiplayer melee game set in medieval times that’s been getting better with age/proper support. Ash was a fan of it at launch, giving it an 8/10 and saying: “Chivalry 2’s approach to medieval combat is equal parts satisfying and silly, creating a raucous multiplayer experience that begs to be played with friends.” Do as the man says, grab a mate and get to bashing.

Descenders is definitely the smallest scale game of the bunch in terms of budget, but it actually provides some of the biggest moments as you careen down mountains and race to beat your friends. RageSquid’s downhill racer has that Super Meat Boy appeal in the sense that you will be restarting over and over again until you get it right, but if you’re playing with friends you will no doubt mostly enjoy seeing who can break their entire skeleton the hardest. Chuck in procedurally generated worlds and an awesome soundtrack, and you have a contender for a bit of a sleeper hit for Plus next month.

All of these games — if the leak does end up being proven true, but it must be said that billbil-kun hasn’t missed yet — will come to PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers on the first Tuesday of May, which is May 2nd, 2023.
