Another WWE career bites the dust and this time round it happens to be NXT’s KUSHIDA that has upped and left the company. Reports have confirmed that one of NXT’s most decorated signings at the time has come to an end due to his contract expiring and the mutual decision to not renew. WWE have already moved KUSHIDA’s profile to the alumni section of their roster page, hammering that final nail in the proverbial coffin.

KUSHIDA signed to NXT in 2019, coming in to a lot of fanfare and anticipation. However, the former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champ barely got his feet off the ground despite capturing the NXT Cruiserweight Championship in April 2021. His most recent work was as part of a nothing tag team with Ikeman Jiro, aptly named ‘Jacket Time’.

KUSHIDA’s last efforts on NXT was from a backstage assault skit involving Von Wagner, a shameful final impression from ‘The Time Splitter’. With so much happening in the world of pro wrestling outside of WWE, it’s anyone’s guess as to where he might return to. NJPW seems the logical choice, and with the rumours about them merging with AEW for a huge summer supershow, this could be a great chance for him to re-establish himself as one of the best light heavyweights on the scene.
