Kurt Angle’s WWE Return Plans Revealed

A flying visit from the Olympic Hero.

Former WWE Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist, Kurt Angle, was set to make a brief return to WWE television as part of the ongoing feud between RKBro and the Alpha Academy. Although plans for Angle to make his on-screen return to RAW have been nixed, reports have confirmed exactly what WWE had planned for the Hall of Famer over the course of the past few weeks.

It has been revealed that Kurt had discussions with WWE over Royal Rumble weekend to be included as part of the weekly RKBro academic challenges, which would have been dubbed the ‘Three I’s Challenge’, a clear reference to Angle’s old catchphrase. After the challenges were completed, this would have led to Angle being included as part of the Tag Championship rematch between the two teams, possibly acting as the Special Guest Referee or enforcer.

It’s a real shame that these plans didn’t actually come together, not only because of the comparisons drawn between Chad Gable and Kurt Angle during his prime, but also because these segments have actually been pretty entertaining. Kurt has been best known for some of his comedic work in WWE, so watching him relish in those old times as part of the RKBro academic challenges would have likely been highlights of the show.

It’s safe to say this was a huge missed opportunity on WWE’s part. Bringing in old flames such as Kurt Angle is a great way to bring some eyes back to the more popular feuds on WWE television, especially in gimmicky segments such as these that can either be huge hits or fall flat on their face.
