Kirby And The Forgotten Land has finally launched, giving everyone the opportunity to explore the world of everyone’s favourite big pink blob in 3D for the first time ever. If the potential of that sounds a bit lonely to you, you can even play through the entire game in co-op. Here’s everything you need to know about how to play Kirby And The Forgotten Land in co-op.

In order to play Kirby And The Forgotten Land in co-op, you need to complete the game’s short introductory level, which takes Kirby from a ruined city to Waddle Dee Town. After beating the enemies in the Waddle Dee Town, you’ll unlock the World Map and be able to continue the game, and Bandana Waddle Dee will offer up his services for co-op play.

At any time during the game, players can pause and activate co-op play with a second controller, which can be achieved with just a single Joy-Con. When activated, the second player will control Bandana Waddle Dee while player one controls Kirby. Bandana Waddle Dee has his own abilities involving his spear, but has the same movement capabilities as Kirby.

As co-op modes go, it’s nice that the option is there, but it’s a bit unnecessary. There’s no swallowing for Waddle Dee, meaning Kirby gets access to all of the fun abilities, while the camera follows Kirby the entire time. If Waddle Dee tries to walk off camera, they’re immediately teleported to Kirby. If you’re looking for a more dedicated co-op experience, Kirby And The Forgotten Land isn’t it, but there’s a lot of enjoyment to be had here.

Kirby And The Forgotten Land is available on Switch.
