Christmas came early.

AEW absolutely blew fans away with their special episode of Dynamite, ‘Winter is Coming’. Not only did we see the crowning of a new AEW Champion in Kenny Omega, but we also witnessed the debut of wrestling legend, Sting.

Needless to say, fans are buzzing over All Elite Wrestling as we head into the New Year, but the hype doesn’t stop with them, it’s also carrying over into Impact Wrestling, who seem to have confirmed a partnership with the promotion in the main event of Dynamite.

This came in the form of Impact head-honcho, Don Callis, making his presence felt during Omega/Moxley, essentially costing Mox the match and the title, then making a hasty exit with ‘The Cleaner’, announcing that we’ll find out more on Tuesday’s episode of Impact. That’s one way to score some ratings.

It was the exclamation mark on what was an incredible, brutal championship match. This is exactly what wrestling fans wanted to see and an example of just how to book your major championship feuds. I personally am really looking forward to seeing what comes of the AEW/Impact partnership, there’s a lot of great talent on the Impact roster who would fit in perfectly with the AEW vibe. Let’s hope this is the start of something beautiful.

Of course the other nugget of surprising news was the emergence of ‘The Icon’ in AEW. Sting made his presence known following the Cody/Allin vs Team Taz semi-main. After a post-match beatdown by Cage, Starks and Hobbs, WCW alumni Dustin Rhodes and Arn Anderson failed to make the save, but it was the ghoulish former World Champion himself that sent the wolves packing.

Sting is set to speak for the first time in AEW on next week’s Dynamite, many seem to think that this might be a confirmation of his in-ring return, but let’s not speak too soon. Fingers crossed this will be the final chapter for his career that fans have been craving since 2015.

Also confirmed for next week’s instalment is a clash between Orange Cassidy and MJF to determine who will walk away with the Dynamite Diamond ring and a non-title match between The Young Bucks and TH2. Be sure to tune in as AEW wraps up 2020 in style.
