Jon Moxley Wins IWGP United States Championship

NJPW has a new gaijin in town.

Jon Moxley’s return to the independent scene has been one of the biggest talking points in all of professional wrestling. Making his anticipated debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling at the BOSJ finals, Moxley defeated Juice Robinson and claimed his first IWGP United States Championship.

This is a huge win for Moxley, and a massive get for New Japan. Jon Moxley confirmed his signing with NJPW just over a week ago, right after his shock appearance at Double or Nothing. Mox revealed via another broody vignette that he was the one behind the mysterious threats sent to then US champ, Juice Robinson.

The match itself was hard-hitting and intense, finishing with two underhook DDTs to the resilient Robinson. Juice deserves a lot of credit for giving Moxley a hell of a first match back from his WWE tenure.

Moxley’s title win was the penultimate match on the show, coming second to the BOSJ tournament finals between Shingo Takagi and Will Ospreay. This only goes to show how much faith NJPW have in Jon Moxley as a draw for the company. Naturally a former WWE talent, let alone someone with as much talent as he, would bring plenty of new eyes to the product. Let’s just hope his run as IWGP United States Champion proves to be a successful one that breaks headlines.
