The Joker Origin Story Movie: Martin Scorsese Involved, Jared Leto Isn’t

In one of the most unexpected pieces of news to come out of the industry in quite some time, Variety reports that Martin Scorsese will be involved in the production of an origin story movie for The Joker.

Despite the fact that anything Batman-related has been grittier than the cast of True Grit rolling around in a tarmac factory, the Joker movie will also be gritty. It will be more in line with a crime drama than a comic book movie, hence Scorsese’s reported involvement.

Todd Phillips of War Dogs and The Hangover fame is slated to direct the movie, which will have no direct relation to the DCEU and not feature Jared Leto as The Joker. However, Leto will most likely return for Suicide Squad 2. Confused yet?

Scott Silver will join Phillips in trying to justify telling the origin story of a villain who works so well because he’s mysterious. After all these years, there is no tale they can tell that will be satisfying.

The project is still in its early stages by all accounts, so let’s hope the cocaine runs out before they have the energy to see this bad idea through.
