John Wick 5 Confirmed, Will Be Shot Back to Back With Fourth Film

More Keanu is always a good thing.

As per Deadline, during a recent earnings call, Lionsgate has officially confirmed that there will be a John Wick 5, and this film will be shot back to back with the fourth one. CEO John Feltheimer said the studio is aiming for production to take place “early next year.”

Since John Wick 4 hasn’t confirmed an official shooting date yet, it may be a little surprising John Wick 5 has already been approved by the studio. However, considering the fantastic track record of the franchise, this deal isn’t really such a radical one.

The first film was a sleeper hit at the box office, grossing US$86 million worldwide against a US$20 million production budget. That success spawned a franchise, with John Wick: Chapter 2 hitting theaters in 2017, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum debuting last year. Each installment has proven to be a bigger hit than the last, and Lionsgate is probably eager to have it carry on for as long as possible.

Moreover, studios have suffered from the shutdowns brought on by the pandemic, so it makes sense that Lionsgate is choosing to greenlight future films that would be make bank at the box office.

Choosing to film two films in a franchise back to back has been done many times before, Keanu Reeves himself would have experienced this with the sequels to The Matrix. It’ll be exciting to see what director Chad Stahelski and company came up with, and who knows, John Wick 5 might not even be the end of the road.
