WWE superstar Jeff Hardy has been arrested for driving while intoxicated.
The former WWE Champion and brother of Matt was picked up by police around 10:30pm Saturday night in Concord, North Carolina, the Hardy’s home state.
The daredevil, famous for years of death-defying leaps and stunts, may not have found the adrenaline rush he was looking for after driving his Cadillac into a roadside guardrail.
Hardy has been dealing with a torn rotator cuff that has kept him away from in-ring action since September 2017.
According to the arresting officer’s statement, Hardy and his cadillac “ran off the roadway to the right, in turn striking about 105ft of guardrail, before the back end of the car spun out 90 degrees to the left, coming to rest in the middle of the right northbound lane of travel”.
According to Carrabus County Court records, Hardy is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 16; eight days after WrestleMania. His driving license has also been revoked for the thirty days following his arrest.
Reports state that Hardy caused about $13,000 damage during the incident, the majority of repairs having to be made on his own car.
This is not the first time Hardy has had a brush with the law. In 2009 he was arrested for possession of anabolic steroids and controlled prescription pills. He was jailed for the same offence in 2011 for ten days.
Hardy has two Wellness Policy violations on his record with WWE, both picked up during his 2006 and 2009 stints with the company. WWE policy states a third strike against the Wellness Policy would mean contract termination.
Back in February, one half of the SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions, Jey Uso, was also arrested on a DWI charge.
WWE will be keen to let the news of Hardy’s arrest blow over with WrestleMania a mere four weeks away.
